Stock Photo - 11 December 2018, Saxony-Anhalt, Wettin: The Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie shows a piece of clay from the 10th/11th century during excavation work on the outer castle of Wettin Castle. The new excavation in the surroundings of the family castle of the Wettin family has been running since October and has provided new insights into the shape and size of the Wettin castle. The remains of a castle wall from the 11th to the 12th century came to light. Normally there were only wooden stable buildings on medieval outer castles. The archaeologists conclude from this a much more intensive use of the area than was previously known. Hundreds of medieval pottery finds from the 10th/11th and 13th centuries also came to light during the excavation. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Wettin/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
