Stock Photo - 11 December 2019, Saxony, Seiffen: Andreas Werner and Jacqueline Lorenz work in the workshop of wooden toy maker and tire lathe operator Christian Werner in Seiffen on a pyramid on which the so-called tire animals can be found. Special turning tools are used to turn the profile of a figure into the wet wood. Only after splitting does the silhouette of the figure reveal itself. The blanks are later carved, glued and painted. The technology in the small workshop with its six employees is still the same as it was 200 years ago when the turning of tyres in the Erzgebirge mountains was started. The craft in Seiffen is now unique in the world and is only practiced by a handful of wooden toy makers. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Seiffen/Saxony/Germany
