Stock Photo - 11 July 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (Saale): The eye of Karl Marx can be seen on a mosaic on a prefabricated building in Halle/Saale. The large mosaic by Spanish artist Josep Renau (1907-1982) is currently being restored. The erection of the scaffolding in May 2022 heralded the complex restoration of the mural ""Unity of the Working Class and the Founding of the GDR."" The large mosaic, comprising almost 11,000 tiles, 35 meters high and seven meters wide, is one of two murals installed between 1968 and 1974 on the two staircases of the eleven-story former apprentice dormitory. Renau's murals are among the most outstanding works of construction-related art in the GDR and are preserved in Germany only in Halle and Erfurt.
