The defendant allegedly drove at almost three times the speed limit in an area where the maximum speed limit was 50, in order to demonstrate the performance of his car to his three passengers. He allegedly lost control of the car and drove off the roadway. A 21-year-old woman died in the vehicle, and the two other passengers were injured.
