The ship was built in 1910 as the ""Kronprinz Wilhelm"" at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock and was used as a seaside resort ship from 1930. In 1994, the ship ran aground on its way to a shipyard and had to be salvaged at great expense; since then, it has been falling into disrepair.
