In the National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft the rangers invited bird lovers with binoculars and a book of destinations to participate on various counting routes. Worldwide in the middle of winter the water birds are counted. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this weekend, about 100 volunteers will capture the birds at the Baltic coast and Bodden waters, at larger lakes and rivers. Ducks, geese and swans, divers, cormorants and herons are registered. For this purpose, the waters are divided into counting areas. The data is collected at country level and forwarded to the international organisation BirdLife International. Photo: Stefan Sauer/dpa. - Barhöft/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Germany
