Archaeologists found a valuable Scandinavian dominated silver treasure from the late 10th century, from the ..epoch of change from the Viking age to Christianity, at a field on the Baltic Sea island of Ruegen. They recovered necklaces, bracelets, pearls, brooches, a Thorshammer, chopped rings as well as 500 to 600 broken coins on a 400-square-metre area near Schaprode. More than 100 of them belonged to the legendary king of Denmark Harald Bluetooth (910-987). Already in 1872 and 1974 some kilometres away, the famous 'Hiddensee Jewellery of Gold' was found on the island of Hiddensee. The treasure is also assigned to the king of Denmark or rather his closer surroundings. Bluetooth, who was born a Viking, is considered the founder of the Danish Empire by uniting the country, introducing Christianity and implementing reforms. · NO WIRE SERVICE · Photo: Stefan Sauer/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa. - Schaprode/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Germany
