There are still a dozen or so well-preserved cave dwellings here that remind us of the floodplain from the bestsellers ""The Lord of the Rings"" and ""The Hobbit"" by the writer J.R.R. Tolkien. The dwellings were carved into sandstone rocks with hammer and chisel by peasant families from 1855 onwards. Today, an association takes care of the preservation of the cave dwellings.
