Stock Photo - 13 October 2021, Saxony-Anhalt, Merseburg: The coat of arms of the cathedral chapter of Merseburg can be seen on the new Friede bell on the cathedral square. Afterwards the bell was lifted into the belfry with a crane. Now, in the next few weeks, reconstruction work is to take place so that the bell has enough space in the tower and can ring for the first time on Reformation Day, 31 October. The Friede bell, which weighs almost 900 kilograms, was newly cast for the imperial cathedral in Freiberg, Saxony, to mark the 1000th anniversary of the consecration of Merseburg Cathedral. It was consecrated during festivities at the beginning of October. In the future, the bell will ring three times a day and thus relieve the historic bells of the Protestant church.
