A good eye is important when counting orchids by employees of the Brandenburg nature guard. Every flower panicle must be seen. According to the Brandenburg nature watch, around 51,000 flowering orchids have been recorded on specified counting areas. In the previous year there were just under 30 000, in 2016 only just under 14 000. 66 individual areas in ten large protected areas in the state were examined according to the data.
