Stock Photo - 15 August 2023, Czech Republic, Jáchymov: Historic houses in the late Gothic and Renaissance styles characterize the townscape of the old mining town of Jáchymov (Saint Joachimsthal) in the Czech Republic. After the discovery of considerable silver deposits, the town developed into the most important mining town in the entire Ore Mountains in the 16th century. Important names such as Georgius Agricola, the founder of mining science, are associated with the town. The thaler and the dollar go back to the Joachimstaler, an early modern florin groschen, which was probably struck in 1519. Since 2019, the city has been part of the Unesco World Heritage Mountain Region Erzgebirge. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa. - Jáchymov/Carlsbad/Czech Republic
