Traditionally on Easter weekend, the ""start of spring"" is celebrated in Lübben. The rudel and paddle handover for the official start of the barge and paddle boat season takes place at the harbor. A rudel is a wooden device used by bargemen to move their barge through the waterways of the Spreewald. This activity is called ""staking"".
