Stock Photo - 16 January 2019, Saxony-Anhalt, Bernburg: A sack of salt for chemical use is transported by a conveyor belt in the packaging of the European Salt Company (Esco). The company produces salt in the Salzlandkreis from a depth of 700 metres. The salt was deposited there 250 million years ago when a sea evaporated there. The salt mined is used to produce road salt, among other things, which is currently used on all roads north of the River Main.
