In the run-up to the 30th anniversary of the EU Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive (FFH) on May 21, the Minister of the Environment of Brandenburg Vogel (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), gave the official starting signal for the Natura 2000 teams in the state of Brandenburg on the same day on site. The nature reserve and FFH area ""Herrensee, Lange-Dammwiesen und Barnim-Hänge"" is representative of the 595 FFH areas in Brandenburg that have been secured in the last 30 years for the world's largest network of protected areas, Natura2000. The Landesstiftung NaturSchutzFonds is also active with its EU-LIFE-Kalkmoor project in the area, which has been managed by conservationists since 1980 and maintained by NABU with farmers since 1994.
