Since his retirement in 2018, the 68-year-old craftsman has been restoring the interior of the church, which was built in the 12th-13th centuries and then changed and added to several times, on a voluntary basis. On the initiative of the parish and villagers, the outer shell of the church, which has not been used since 1996 and was severely damaged by floods for this purpose, could be restored in the years until 2019. Since then, Gerald Hartmann has spent about 3000 hours, among other things, renewed the wooden pews and floor, restored the wooden altar and painted the walls and ceiling painting.
