Stock Photo - 17 September 2019, Saxony, Schlettau: Two special cameras on the cockpit of a railcar belonging to the military and transport company Thales are filming the track during a test run at Schlettau station. The image from the cameras is transmitted mobile and is available to the driver on his external control unit. The train is remotely controlled via the new 5G mobile radio standard. Vodafone has built one of the first 5G stations in Germany at the station in Schlettau. In the future, trains could be controlled remotely, for example in freight transport. The research train is part of the Smart Rail Connectivity Campus project led by Chemnitz University of Technology. In the meantime, more than 120 partners from science and industry, including Vodafone, have joined forces. Together they are researching the rail travel of the future, digitized, networked, highly automated and sustainable mobility. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Schlettau/Saxony/Germany
