Stock Photo - 18 July 2023, Saxony-Anhalt, Zeitz: Holger Rode (l), excavation manager, and Donat Wehner, project manager, stand with a historical plan during excavation work on the site of the former Posa monastery. Archaeologists have uncovered extensive details of the former buildings here. For example, some walls from the area of the south wing of the enclosure are in an unexpectedly good state of preservation, and the north facade of the cloister is still preserved at a height of about 70 centimeters over a length of about ten meters. The Benedictine monastery of Posa was built in 1114. In 1573 it was dissolved as a result of the Reformation. The church was demolished and the stones used as building material for Zeitz Castle in the 17th century.
