On the same day, the Ostseestaal company in Stralsund laid the keel for a new electric solar ferry for the Szczecin Lagoon. According to the operator, the Oderhaff-Reederei Peters (Ueckermünde), the new building costs around 700,000 euros and is 45 percent subsidised. The electric solar passenger ferry will shuttle between the mainland port of Kamp (Vorpommern-Greifswald) and Karnin on the island of Usedom and replaces a conventional ferry that has already been taken out of service. It will be able to carry 15 bicycles and 20 passengers on one crossing and is scheduled to start operating in late summer 2021.
