Stock Photo - 20 July 2023, Berlin: Elke Büdenbender (l-r), wife of German President Steinmeier, Marc Rogotzki with daughter Romy, Anne Rogotzki with daughter Annabel and Fabian Dancker stand in the park of Bellevue Palace. Annabel, a transplanted blood cancer patient, met her ""lifesaver"" Fabian Dancker for the first time together with her parents at Bellevue Palace. The girl, who is now four years old, was suffering from leukemia and was in need of a stem cell donation. After a worldwide search, a possible donor was found: Fabian Dancker from Siegerland (NRW) donated the life-saving stem cells to the girl, who was unknown to him at the time, in March 2021. Annabel's father is a member of the protocol staff at the Office of the Federal President, so Elke Büdenbender also learned of the family's fate and invited them to a meeting at Bellevue Palace. The stem cell donation was arranged by the German Bone Marrow Donor Center (DKMS), where more than 11.5 million potential donors are currently registered.
