Stock Photo - 20 October 2021, Saxony, Chemnitz: Objects, including cutlery, tiles and shellac records, which were found during an archaeological excavation in the city centre of Chemnitz, lie on a table. The State Office for Archaeology hopes that the excavations will provide new insights into the early development of the city. In the area now being investigated, there is said to have been a pre-urban settlement before the actual city was founded. Since the start of the excavation in mid-September, the archaeologists have secured findings from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as remains of pre-war buildings, cellars and foundation walls of buildings destroyed during the war. The work is expected to last until the end of December 2021. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Chemnitz/Saxony/Germany
