The Federal Government's timetable for the phase-out of lignite, with the deadlines for the Jänschwalde and Schwarze Pumpe power plants (both Spree-Neisse), has been received differently in the Brandenburg Lausitz region. According to plans, the Jänschwalde lignite-fired power plant is to be shut down between 2025 and 2028. Two blocks have already been shut down in the past two years. Around 850 people are employed there. The Schwarze Pumpe power plant, which employs around 330 people, is scheduled to be off the grid by the end of 2038.
