The library, which belongs to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, shows on its website, among other things, thumbnails of copyrighted works that can also be embedded on other websites. In order to conclude a licensing agreement, the collecting society Bild-Kunst requires the DDB to take technical protective measures against the framing of the preview images. The case has already been before the European Court of Justice, and was last heard at the BGH on 17 June. The aim of the DDB is to open up free access to Germany's cultural and scientific heritage, i.e. to millions of books, archives, pictures, sculptures, pieces of music and other audio documents, films and sheet music.
