The coal-fired heating plant was built in 1976 and operated until 1995. The chimney was blown up in 1997 and the buildings gradually fell into disrepair. Once the demolition work is complete and the foundation consisting of rubble and debris has been removed, the Potsdam-Süd Generation Park is to be built on the site.
