Ahead of the planned demolition of the Generalshotel on the BER airport site, the Left and Green parties in the Brandenburg state parliament are calling for a moratorium. On Wednesday evening, a meeting of representatives of the initiative ""Save the General Hotel"", the press, authorities and the Federal Police took place at the General Hotel. The old villa on the BER site was built between 1947 and 1950 and once served as a reception building for representatives of the Soviet Union and state guests of the GDR. Demolition was originally planned because a new government terminal was to be built on the same site - but these plans have since been scrapped.
