Stock Photo - 21 November 2019, Brandenburg, Potsdam: The bronze sculpture ""Soldat mit Fahne"" (""Soldier with Flag""), designed by the sculptor Walter Bullert in 1953 at the Lauchhammer Foundry, stands in front of a pergola on the Soviet cemetery in a wooded area on Bundesstraße 2 between Potsdam and Michendorf. On 39 burial grounds 2399 Soviet war dead from the Second World War and 2829 officers, soldiers, civilian employees and officers of the garrison of the Soviet armed forces in the GDR are buried. At some graves there are pictures of the deceased, a tradition that is common in Russia. Further gravestones remind of accidents with airplanes or tanks, which are engraved silhouette-like into the stones. The 26 soldiers who crashed on 14 April 1951 with a total of 13 new Ilyushin 10 aircraft over southern Brandenburg, between Dahme and Luckau, for unknown reasons, are buried here.
