Stock Photo - 22 August 2021, Brandenburg, Oranienburg: Friedrich Klausch, former inmate of the Sachsenhausen special camp, walks to the lectern during the commemoration ceremony for the establishment of the Soviet special camp in Sachsenhausen 76 years ago. The Soviet occupation forces had established ten special camps in their zone. Around 60000 people were imprisoned in the Weesow and Sachsenhausen camps until their dissolution in the spring of 1950, 12000 of whom died of hunger and disease. The anniversary of the arrival of the first prisoners in Sachsenhausen has been commemorated by the former prisoners and their relatives since the early 1990s.
