The synagogue complements the Rabbi's House, built in 1908 and now a listed building, where Kurt Weill spent childhood years, as his father Albert Weill was cantor of the congregation. The religious and cultural life of the Jewish community in Dessau, which was newly founded thirty years ago, has so far taken place in the very limited space of the Rabbi's House.
