Stock Photo - 22 September 2023, Saxony, Chemnitz: A so-called Bornkinnel (around 1500), which was once on display in the Cathedral of St. Mary in Zwickau, stands for a new exhibition in the Schloßberg Museum of the Chemnitz Art Collections. Starting Sunday (Sept. 24, 2023), the museum will devote its new special exhibition to Europe's holy tombs under the title ""The Shrine of Redemption."" The exhibits, photographs and film presentations provide an insight into the exciting and emotionally touching world of medieval beliefs. Holy tombs were part of the standard furnishings of church rooms from the 12th century onward. Only very few examples of variants such as the Salzburg or Chemnitz Holy Sepulchre, so-called tracery shrines, have survived. In this respect, the Schloßbergmuseum owns a sacred work of art of European rank with its shrine. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa. - Chemnitz/Saxony/Germany
