Stock Photo - 23 April 2022, Brandenburg, Schlieben: Dietmar Woidke (M, SPD), Minister-President of Brandenburg, stands next to a memorial plaque with the names of victims during an event marking the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps in Brandenburg, in front of the Schlieben-Berga subcamp memorial. The camp had been administered by the SS since July 1944 and was the third largest subcamp under the Buchenwald concentration camp. Prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates had to produce mainly bazookas on behalf of the Leipzig armaments company Hugo Schneider AG (HASAG) on the approximately 500-hectare site. Today, there are still ruins of the bazooka production facility, which was dismantled after the end of the war, twelve largely preserved bunkers, and the guard and administration barracks.
