Stock Photo - 23 May 2019, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Murchin: A listed cultural centre from the Stalin era stands in the town of Murchin off the island of Usedom. (Aerial photo with a drone). At the Norddeutsche Grundstücksauktion the former district culture house Murchin near Anklam (district Vorpommern-Greifswald) will be auctioned on 25.05.2019 in Rostock. The hall of the State Palace of Culture, built between 1952 and 1954, was converted into a discotheque. The building in the style of socialist classicism served as a prototype for cultural centres in the then GDR northern districts, such as today's Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the GDR around 2000 cultural houses, cultural palaces and workers' clubs had been built or furnished in existing buildings. A special feature of the Murchin Cultural House are wall and ceiling frescos on the theme of German-Hungarian friendship.
