Stock Photo - 24 May 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Köthen: View of the Protestant Church of St. Agnus in Köthen. The church's altar, which is of great artistic and historical value, has now been extensively restored and is back in its original place in the renovated church. The work originates from a Central German workshop and dates back to around 1510. Presumably, the altar originally stood in the Merseburg Cathedral and then came to Köthen. Depicted is the adoration of the Eucharist as well as scenes from the Old Testament, which are also related to the Lord's Supper. The church was built between 1694 and 1699 at the behest of Princess Gisela Agnes of Anhalt-Köthen. The Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach was a member of the congregation during his time as Köthen court kapellmeister (1717-1723). Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa. - Köthen/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
