However, due to the ongoing closure of another lock, hobby captains are currently unable to reach the Schwerin lakes by water. Work on the three-million-euro renovation of the Banzkow ship lift in the Stör Canal near Schwerin began as early as 2022 and was scheduled for completion at the start of the water sports season in April 2023. The waterway connects the Schwerin Lakes with the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Elbe River and will, however, remain impassable for the time being.
