The 80-kilometer trail between Eisleben and Naumburg was opened on the same day in Zscheiplitz near Freyburg (Burgenlandkreis). The Luther Trail, which is 530 kilometers long in total, is a joint project of churches, tourism associations, local authorities and other sponsors. Martin Luther (1483-1546), who was born in Eisleben, stayed in Naumburg at least twice. In 1542, he was consecrated as the world's first Protestant bishop in the cathedral.
