At the facility in Rodewisch, which was opened in 1967, a new reflecting telescope with a diameter of 50 centimeters will be the centerpiece of the newly renovated wooden dome. In the GDR, there was a high density of observatories and planetariums, partly due to the compulsory subject of astronomy. This makes the survival of the facilities as tourist destinations difficult today. Visitors can be attracted by spectacular celestial events such as the flyby of a comet or a solar eclipse. The associated planetariums enable perspective changes or virtual space flights through the projection of an artificial starry sky. Photo: Jan Woitas/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa. - Rodewisch/Saxony/Germany
