The technical monument has been a selected site of the Unesco World Heritage Mining Region Erzgebirge since 2019 and is currently being restored at a cost of around 1.1 million euros. After completion of the first construction phase, it is planned that the museum will reopen next year. It is one of the most important monuments to the old binder industry in Europe. Here, the complete technological process from limestone marble quarrying to stone powder and quicklime production can be traced back to the 16th century. The four still existing lime kilns were in operation until 1975. At the end of the war, the Nazis had hidden valuable paintings from the Dresden collections here, including works by Titian, Rubens and Rembrandt.
