Stock Photo - 26 May 2020, Lower Saxony, Niederhaverbeck: Birch trunks lie at the bottom of the heath on the hiking trail to the Totengrund in the Lüneburg Heath. The Totengrund is an approximately 30 hectare large valley basin on the edge of the Wilseder Berg near Wilsede. The area was purchased in 1906 with donations. Thus the Totengrund became the nucleus of the Lüneburger Heide nature reserve, which was established in 1921 as one of the first and largest nature reserves in Germany.
