The mill was built in 1817 on a small, windy hill southeast of the village. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1835. The mill was owned by a miller family for six generations until 1980. Between 1987 and 1991 the mill was extensively restored. The mill is maintained by the Mühlenverein Danstedt. The mill is put into operation on special occasions - such as the German Mill Day.
