The dwellings are somewhat reminiscent of the Shire from the bestseller Lord of the Rings. You literally wait for a hobbit smoking a pipe to come around the corner. The cave dwellings of Langenstein were carved into soft sandstone by migrant workers between 1855 and 1858. Ten of these dwellings have been preserved, and some are open to visitors.
