The animals are suckled by their mother for up to 6 months. The Harz goat is an old German goat breed that was native to the Harz Mountains and surrounding areas. The Harz goat has been displaced by more powerful breeds. Julia Thielecke of the Brockenbauer farm in Tanne has taken on the breed, which is threatened with extinction, and keeps some animals on the show farm of her parents' farm.
