Stock Photo - 28 October 2022, Saxony, Leipzig: In the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's death chamber, Juliane Baumgart-Streibert (r), curator at the Mendelssohn House, and Cornelia Thierbach, museum director, take a look at the exhibition. The show in the musician's death chamber has been completely redesigned and is now on public view for the first time. Based on an inventory list of the apartment discovered in 2019, the so-called Green Room could be identified as the death room. Until then, another room was suspected. At only 38 years of age, the famous musician died in the evening hours of November 4, 1847. The central object of the redesign is a display case showing the composer's death mask and a lock of his hair. A listening station offers an account by his wife Cécile of her husband's last weeks. Letters of condolence and newspaper reports from around the world on Mendelssohn Bartholdy's death complement the exhibit. With the opening of the Mendelssohn Festival on Monday (Oct. 31, 2022), the foundation will also look back on 25 years of the Mendelssohn House Leipzig and the 175th anniversary of his death.
