Stock Photo - 29 November 2023, Saxony-Anhalt, Naumburg (Saale): A crane is used to lift the parts of the altarpiece in the west choir of Naumburg Cathedral into position. Around a year after the altar was dismantled following heated discussions, it has now returned. The Leipzig painter Michael Triegel had completed the church painting created by Lukas Cranach the Elder in 1519 and recreated the central section. After the altar was consecrated in the summer of 2022, its location in the west choir between the famous donor figures was suddenly disputed. In the meantime, the altar was on tour in Paderborn and Vienna. It can now be seen again in a prominent position in Naumburg Cathedral, initially until 2025.
