Stock Photo - 30 March 2022, Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Oder): Access to the beach of Lake Helene is cordoned off with a fence. Parts of Lake Helene near Frankfurt (Oder) have been off-limits to visitors since May 2021 due to the risk of slides. The State Office for Mining, Geology and Raw Materials (LBGR) had the entire north and west shore closed off last year as a precaution. In March 2021, a landslide had occurred there, and the LBGR had the area geotechnically investigated. Lake Helene was created from the former open-cast lignite mine Helene. It has been a popular destination for excursions for decades. Among other things, there is a camping site, numerous vacation bungalows and wide sandy beaches around the lake.
