Stock Photo - 30 March 2022, Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Oder): An oval bulge in the shallow shore area of Lake Helene is clearly visible (aerial photograph taken with a drone). A landslide occurred here in March 2021. Parts of Lake Helene near Frankfurt (Oder) have been off-limits to visitors since May 2021 due to the risk of landslides. The State Office for Mining, Geology and Raw Materials (LBGR) had the entire north and west banks closed last year as a precaution. In March 2021, a landslide had occurred there, and the LBGR had the area geotechnically investigated. Lake Helene was created from the former open-cast lignite mine Helene. It has been a popular destination for excursions for decades. Among other things, there is a camping site, numerous vacation bungalows and wide sandy beaches around the lake.
