Stock Photo - 30 September 2021, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schaprode: A sign with the words ""Forestry work"" stands in a forest in Altefähr on the beach promenade. The felling of trees on Rügen is causing resentment in the municipality of Altefähr. According to the municipality, a spa park from 1884 with a view of Stralsund is to be restored. After the Second World War, this had been reclassified as a forest and had not been maintained in the past 30 years since the fall of communism. The municipality expects total costs of about half a million euros for the conversion from forest to park. Of this, 90 percent could be subsidized by the state.
