Stock Photo - A day-long token strike of primary and and secondary schools as well as kindergartens has begun in the Czech Republic this morning, with unions estimating that nearly 70 percent of schools will be involved to varying degrees. The trade unions' upcoming strike is seeking, among other things, more money for education. The unions do not like either the government's proposed regulation that would reduce the maximum number of hours of teaching funded by the state budget. They point out that this will lead to a reduction in the quality of teaching. They also want to prevent a drop in the salaries of non-teaching staff and other school employees.
