Stock Photo - A statue of Russian Red Army soldier in Litomerice was damaged as the pedestal was remodelled to a washing machine and the body has red paint over it, the town will have the statue repaired and will add a sign to it explaining the historic context, mayor Radek Lowy (ANO) told CTK today, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. This has not been the first case of damaging Red Army monuments in relation to the war in Ukraine. The town is planning to add a sign to the statue explaining the historic context and who the statue celebrates. It was already damaged in the past. The statue was placed to Jiraskovy sady (Jirasek's park) in 1975. In 2011, the town representatives were discussing the removal of the statue over the revitalisation of the park but the town then stated the statue had to be kept on its place due to the international agreement between Czechia and Russia.
