The 10,000 square meter area is peppered with 57 fire pits as well as around 1,000 pig bones and pottery. It is the only such facility in central Germany found up until now. The salt pottery is also proof that salt was being produced on site. Smoked meat can be kept for several weeks and salted meats for several years. The excavations are taking place as part of construction on a 37 kilometer long liquid gas pipeline. Photo: JAN WOITAS/dpa | usage worldwide. - Woerbzig/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
