Viral gastroenteritis has been present in our country since 1965 and causes considerable damage in pig farms. The disease is quite different from other infectious diseases and requires regular maintenance of permanent immunity against the infection, which affects newborn piglets. The method of combating gastroenteritis has been proven in practice and in the farms where it has been used. Immediate vaccination ensures high immunity of all pregnant sows, which pass on protective substances in their milk to the piglets. Zdenek Pospisil diagnoses viral gastroenteritis using a fluorescence microscope. A clear white drawing on a section of the intestine of a sick piglet shows viral particles of gastroenteritis in the cells of the mucosa. (CTK Photo/Vit Korcak)
