President Milos Zeman signed pardon for Jiri Kajinek, who was serving life sentence, on May 23, 2017. Kajinek, 56, is probably the best-known Czech prisoner. He gained popularity mainly by his spectacular escape from Mirov, the country's toughest-security prison in north Moravia, in 2000. The police caught him after about six weeks on the run. A court in Plzen, west Bohemia, sentenced Kajinek to life on June 23, 1998. He was convicted of shooting businessman Stefan Janda and his bodyguard, Julian Pokos, dead in Plzen in 1993. Another bodyguard survived the attack. Kajinek has pleaded not guilty since the beginning. A film based on his life story appeared in Czech cinemas in 2010. (CTK Photo/Radek Petrasek)
