In 1964, after winning the second prize in an international competition in Ludwigshafen, Albert Speer set up his own architectural practice, the Frankfurt-based company 'Albert Speer & Partner' (AS&P). The company realised several projects in North Africa and Asia during the 1970s, including the city planning of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which comprised the Diplomatic Quarter and the Community Center.
